The Story of the Shepherd Boy
Blog Article
Deep within the enchanting rolling hills, dwelt a young shepherd. His existence was here pure, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was essentially to tend to his flock of rams.
Their low murmuring and the rustling of the breezes through the single tree on the peak were his constant associates. Day upon day, guarding his responsibilities imbued in him a sense of tranquil contentment.
Yet, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous plan.
Narratives of wild beasts prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy chose to exploit this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.
One day he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but discovered nothing threatening.
The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a few days more. But, one morning, a real wolf did come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the results of crying wolf.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once broken, is hard to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
